About the firm

A decade inside institutions, before advising them.

I spent a decade inside institutions before I started advising them. That order matters.

Principal:Ausara-Yah Kokayi Role:Founder & Head of Strategy Based:Brooklyn, New York

Before Summer Studios 88, I worked in health services operations, community engagement, nonprofit administration, and the New York City public school system. Not adjacent to those institutions — inside them, on the operational side, where policy meets the person it lands on.

That experience produced a conviction that shapes every engagement here: transformation fails on culture, trust, and process long before it fails on technology. An organization does not struggle with AI because the model is wrong. It struggles because nobody told the staff what happens to their jobs, because the policy was written after the pilot, because the people asked to change were the last people consulted.

So the work is built in the other direction. Strategy that accounts for the humans who have to carry it. AI adoption that earns internal confidence before it scales. Wellbeing programming treated as part of the change budget rather than a perk. And when the story needs telling, narrative architecture the internal team can operate without me in the room.

I am a strategist, but I came up as an operator, a coordinator, and a writer. Those are not separate skills here. They are the same instinct applied at different altitudes.
